History of Anatomical Pathology Laboratory, Faculty of Medicine, Brawijaya University

History of Anatomical Pathology Laboratory, Faculty of Medicine, Brawijaya University began on 1978. There was only one pathologist as lecturer, that was dr. Soebarkah Basoeki Sp.PA, which graduated from Airlangga University on March 26th, 1978 and was placed in Medical school of Brawijaya University for pioneering anatomical pathology laboratory in Malang. On May 1st 1978 dr. Soebarkah Basoeki Sp.PA began to work in Anatomical Pathology Laboratory, Faculty of Medicine Brawijaya University and had taken place at RSUD Dr. Saiful Anwar Malang.

In 1978-1979, Anatomical Pathology Laboratory only had two persons as staff, that were one pathologist, and one general practitioner. In 1979, there was new staff recruitment, which were dr. Karyono Mintaroem, ; dr. Mujdiwijono HE ; dr. Abdurahman Basuki; dr. Supranowo ; dr Imam Sarwono. All of the newly staff was sent to continuing study as pathologist at Airlangga Medical Faculty. In 1983, Anatomical Pathology Faculty of Medicine Brawijaya University was permitted to educate its own staff from 1st semester untill 4th semester, so that would shorten the educational period at Airlangga Medical Faculty.

In 1985-1986, Anatomical Pathology Laboratory had its own building which held in Medical Faculty of Brawijaya University. This building was used to education activities such lecture and practicum, whereas the pathological service activities still be held on anatomical pathology laboratory RSSA.

In 1998, Anatomical Pathology Laboratory had more additional teaching staff, whose name was dr. Eviana Norahmawati. She took pathology educational program on Airlangga Medical Faculty. Dr. Kenty Wantri Anita joined as pathology staff in 2001 and took pathology educational program on 2010 at Diponegoro University.

The number of pathology staff still increasing. dr. Rachmad Sarwo Bekti joined in 2007, followed by dr. Ihda Dian Kusuma and dr. Aina Angelina, who joined in 2011 and 2012 as newly pathology teaching staff. The last staff who joined as teaching staff in pathology departement are dr. M. Luqman Fadli and dr. RA Rose Khasana Dewi, who joined in 2013.

Anatomical Pathology Laboratory is setting Anatomical Pathology educational program (PPDS) at the Brawijaya University. Actually, pioneering step in establishment of Anatomical Pathology educational program (PPDS) had been started in 1983. Anatomical Pathology Laboratory had been visited by several lecturer from Airlangga Medical Faculty, One of the lecturer was (Alm.) Prof. Dr. Rahmat Santoso, Sp.PA (K), who declared about Anatomical Pathology Departement at Brawijaya Medical Faculty were able to educate pathology student in 1st semester until 4th semester. Anatomical Pathology Laboratory of Brawijaya University had educated candidates who would become pathology staff and then the candidates would be sent to Airlangga Medical Faculty to finish his/her study program. This step had  already done since 1983 untill 2000.

On the next stage, several works had been done to establishment of Anatomical Pathology educational program at Faculty of Medicine, Brawijaya University. Started at 2010, Association of Anatomical Pathology Board of Indonesia had visited Anatomical Pathology Brawaijaya University on March 29th 2010. The visitation result stated Anatomical Pathology were able to accept and educate two persons per semester as student of Anatomical Pathology educational program under Diponegoro University supervision. Based on Association of Anatomical Pathology Board decision, MOU had been made between Faculty of Medicine Brawijaya University with Faculty of Medicine Diponegoro University No.2865A/H7.3.4/KS/2010 and  No.7484/H10.7/PM3/2010 about cooperation in establishment of Anatomical Pathology educational program on September 17th 2010. Visitation result from Diponegoro University concluded one of the term that must be accomplished immediately was Anatomical Pathology Laboratory in Brawijaya University had three consultants specialist. Nowadays Anatomical Pathology Brawijaya University has three pathologist consultant in the interest field of musculoskeletal pathology, neuropathology, and women reproductive tract pathology.

After second stage educational guidance on Desember 2012, Diponegoro University as supervisor of educational program declared that educational guidance periode had done sufficiently. Based on that fact, Association of Anatomical Pathology Board of Indonesia published decision letter No.514/IAPI/Kol/XII/2012 at Desember 17th 2012 about recommendation of Anatomical Pathology educational program establishment at Faculty of Medicine, Brawijaya University.
