MALANG – In an effort to promote the Department of Pharmacy at an international level and to increase inbound student participation in line with Universitas Brawijaya’s program, the Department of Pharmacy conducted a series of activities titled the “International Summer School of Pharmacy Universitas Brawijaya – 2 (ISSP UB – 2)” from June 24 to July 15, 2024.
The ISSP UB – 2 program was attended by 21 students from both domestic and international institutions. They participated in the opening ceremony of ISSP UB – 2, which commenced on Monday, June 24, in the Senate Room, 9th Floor, GPB-FMUB.
In an interview, apt. Uswatun Khasanah, S.Farm., M. Farm, the Head of the Undergraduate Pharmacy Program, stated that this was the second year the ISSP program was conducted. This year, the ISSP was themed “Degenerative Chronic Diseases in Clinical and Community Health.” This theme aligned with one of the missions of the Department of Pharmacy at the Faculty of Medicine, which was to provide high-quality and excellent education in clinical and community fields to international standards.
Unlike last year, this second year of the program would have participants undertake internships at various healthcare facilities, such as community health centers (Puskesmas), hospitals, and pharmacies in Malang City. The participants would be divided into several groups and would complete a one-week internship at each healthcare facility.
The Pharmacy lecturer at FMUB added that the output of this program aimed to promote the Department of Pharmacy, the Faculty of Medicine, and Universitas Brawijaya to gain more international recognition and to increase inbound students, especially in the Department of Pharmacy at FMUB. Additionally, through the ISSP program, participants could learn about the developments in clinical and community pharmacy related to degenerative chronic diseases, particularly chronic diseases in Indonesia.
The students participating in this international program come from the following institutions: 5 students from the University of Puthisastra, Cambodia, 1 student from Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Vietnam, 9 students from Universitas Brawijaya, 1 student from Universitas Airlangga, 1 student from Universitas Syah Kuala, 2 students from Universitas Jember, 1 student from Universitas Surabaya, and 1 student from Universitas Islam Negeri Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang (an Egyptian national).
