FK UB Loves the Environment or commonly known as FCL is a work program that has just been initiated by the Ministry of Social, Community and Environment BEM FK UB 2021. The low awareness to maintain sustainability and implement an environmentally friendly lifestyle is the reason behind holding a work program that focuses on the environment this. FCL 2021 will be conducted in 3 small series from April to September 2021. FCL Chapter 1 -which is the first series – has been completed in April 2021 and is divided into 3 executions, namely: webinar, zero waste challenge, and food waste challenge.
The webinar is the opening event for the FCL series. This webinar was held on April 18, 2021 with the theme “How to Produce Less Trash in this Pandemic Era” and the speaker was Kak Eva Bachtiar, founder of Garda Pangan. The event was opened with remarks from Citra Fadia Alyani as the chief executive of FCL 2021, Kak Primus M. Ihza Kusuma as Student President of BEM FK UB 2021, and dr. Eriko Prawestiningtyas as deputy dean of 3 student affairs. After that, the event was held with the delivery of material about food waste by Ms. Eva Bachtiar, presentation of speaker certificates, games, and socialization for the next execution, challenge.
Indonesia is the 2nd country in the world as the largest producer of food waste. In this webinar, Ms. Eva shared about ways we can help reduce food waste production. The first and easiest way to do this is to reduce the chance that food will be wasted, buy enough and necessary food ingredients. Second, we can donate and distribute food if it is not eaten or is nearing its expiration date. Third, we can give leftover food to nearby animals, such as chickens. Fourth, we can process food waste into compost, and the last option is just to throw away the leftovers.
The next event in FCL Chapter 1 is the zero waste challenge and the food waste challenge. The zero waste challenge is carried out by uploading photos of environmental saving actions by reducing waste production and the use of used goods. Meanwhile, the food waste challenge is carried out by uploading efforts to reduce food waste. There are 3 categories of winners in this challenge, namely participants with the most creative photos, creative captions, and favorite photos. The challenge starts from the 18th, and the winners have been announced on the Instagram account @sosma.bemfkub on April 28 and May 4, 2021.
The next series, chapter 2 will be held in June this year with a plogging challenge and continued with chapter 3 as the peak event which is planned to be carried out offline in September.
