IMSTC 2016 : INTERSTELLAR

Interstellar : “Improving and Promoting Universal Perspective towards Medical Care” was the topic that we brought for Indonesian Medical Student Training and Comepetition (IMSTC) 2016. IMSTC is an annual event by AMSA Indonesia which will be held on different university every year, and IMSTC 2016 has been successfully hosted by AMSA Brawijaya.

Started from Thusrsday, February 25, there’re more than 250 medical students that come from 30 different universities around Indonesia  arrived at Malang. They would stay at Malang for about 4 days and 3 night, at Kartika Graha Hotel. On the first day, they had the schedules for welcoming party, and the second day they had training session and food festival, then symposium, competitions, and farewell party on the third day, and also social action on the last day.

More than 250 medical students came as a delegates for their universities, the delegates of IMSTC 2016 divided by representative, national team of AMSA Indonesia, academic finalist, and general delegates. But there was no general delegates from AMSA Brawijaya, we only provided 13 seats. So there were 1 representative, 1 national team, and 11 academic finalist as IMSTC delegates from AMSA Brawijaya. On the first day, the delegates had a welcoming party at Graha Medika, Medical Faculty of Brawijaya University. The welcoming party started on 7 p.m and that was nice because the committees have arranged the event well, unfortunately there were only 120 delegates, while about 130 others were still on their ways to Malang. The dean, vice third dean, president of Medical Students Executive Board of Brawijaya University, and also representative of AMSA Brawijaya have given the welcoming speech. Then there were an amazing session for Elsevier, which is a world-leading provider of information solutions that enhance the performance of science, health, and technology professionals.Elsevier was also the main sponsor for IMSTC 2016. And absolutely the delegates have their dinner on welcoming party before they back to the hotel.

On the second day, the delegates have a training session at UB TV. The training topics including scientific paper, scientific poster, public poster, video, and photography  that given by expert lecturers, some of them also came from Elsevier. After having training from 8 am until about 12 am, following the schedules then delegates have lunch, Mini Advocacy Session, and AMSA Session until 04.40 pm. After that the delegates have technical meeting for their competition next day, and after the technical meeting, everyone moved to Graha Medika for having food festival called Malang Culinary Night. There were bakso bakar, bakso kuah, cwie mie, tahu telor, dawet, ronde, and sawut as traditional foods from Malang. And also there was a nice decoration with fabulous performances from new member of AMSA Brawijaya. After that the delegates went back to hotel and having a night rest.
Then on the third day (Saturday, February 27) the delegates attended te national symposium with interesting topics about Economic ASEAN Society and the role of health worker, with the topics from Dr. dr. Jack Roebijoso, M.Sc (OM), PKK, Prof. Dr. dr. Kusworini, M.Kes, Sp. PK, and dr. Durrotul Ikrimah. After having lunch, the competition begin. The delegates mobilized to the place of competition around Medical Faculty of Brawijaya University and did the presentation until 5 pm. Then they went back to the hotel and prepared themselves for farewell party, there were also AMSA International Day on farewell party. Where the 6 districts prepared traditional foods on the booth and decorated the booth. There were also amazing performances from each district of AMSA Indonesia, they danced, sang, and performed very well.That was a really long night until the winners of competitions were announced. It as to be an unforgettable night when the Master of Caremony announced Brawijaya as the 1st winner of scientific paper competition, the 1st and 3rd winner of scientific poster competition, the 2nd winner of public poster competitions, and also the 3rd winner of photography competitions.

On the last day of IMSTC 2016, the delegates have social action at Rampal Field with Parahita Foundation, a Foundation for people with Systemic Lupus Erythematotus disease. There were also free medical check about blood glucose, cholesterol, tension, and ostheoporosis test, where people just donated some money for Parahita Foundation as the payment.Delegates were really happy and enjoyed all the moments, they took pictures and smile. After that delegates have to come back to their cities following their travel plans, there were also delegates that took city tour at Batu. Finally IMSTC has been successfully hosted from the beginning on February, 25 until February, 28  and congratulation to AMSA Brawijaya Delegates for being the champions.
