Housed in the Mahogany Room Savana Hotel; Medicine Study Program – Faculty of Medicine UB on Tuesday (18/10) held a workshop on “Revitalization of Academic Advisor in Facing Challenges of Globalization”.
The event was accompanied by the Dean, Vice Dean III, Head and Secretary Medicine Study Program FKUB, as well as the team of academic advisors in FKUB.
Chairman of the event: dr. Agustin Iskandar, M.Kes, SpPK in her report explained the purpose of this activity was to enhance the implementation of a teaching and learning activities, especially college level.
In Indonesia, especially primary education level, the general encountered pattern of education is the passive education pattern (passive learning) in which the role of the teacher (teacher) is more dominant in teaching learning processs. In contrast to education at the university level, teaching patterns currently demands learners to be more actively involved in the learning (active learning), said the clinical pathologist.
Furthermore, the Dean of FKUB, Dr. dr. Sri Andarini, M.Kes, in her speech also added that the era of globalization is a challenge for teenagers and even adults, as it advances to development in the field of education and lifestyle coupled with advances in information and technology.
In the face of challenge in the era of globalization, the role of the academic advisor is very important to quickly find and detect problems being faced by students and help them find the solutions, so that the problem will be resolved faster and does not interfere with the educational process.
Problems faced by students becomes increasingly complex, so it is necessary to revitalize of a student’s role who are undergoing the process of education. Academic advisor is very essential to provide understanding, guidance and inputs in order to build an independent and active participation in the learning process. It is expected that at the end of his studies of a learner becomes more mature in dealing with potential problems in the field of employment and later life.
With the event, it is expected that some goals will be achieved to strengthen the role of academic advisor, including the process of coaching, the achieving of robust system sustainable and effective and drafting an academic mentoring process guidance that is able to accommodate the needs of learners for the smooth process level education in colleges especially in FKUB.
